Meet Nick DuBois, the creator, art director, and writer behind Unhappy Hugo. With a long background in animation, visual storytelling, and character driven humor, Nick brings warmth, expression, and imagination to Hugo’s world.
Unhappy Hugo began as a bedtime story Nick created for his daughter. What started as a funny idea about a hippo who dreams of candy and adventure grew into a playful children’s book about curiosity, big feelings, and wanting to be included.
Through Hugo, Nick combines classic children’s storytelling with expressive animation style comedy, creating a character families can laugh with, remember, and follow into many adventures ahead.
